Man United’s defensive wizardry carries over into Copa America final, as they win all ground duels and only allow one goal

Lisandro Martinez of Manchester United helped Argentina advance to the Copa America final, where they will face either Uruguay or Colombia, managed by Facundo Pellistri, on Sunday night (Monday am UK time).

Canadians were playing in their maiden Copa America semi-final, and they were obstinate, which the Argentines had to overcome.

Two goals from Lionel Messi and Julian Alvarez gave La Albiceleste the victory. They held 51% of the possession and had 11 shots compared to Canada’s 9.

The reigning world champions had several first-half opportunities to widen their lead, but Canada rallied in the second half to tie the score.

Lisandro Martinez contributed to his team’s fourth shutout in five games with another strong performance.

Even though Ecuador scored an equalizer in the quarterfinals after Martinez had been substituted off, they still haven’t let in a goal with United’s number six on the field.

After a solid effort, El Carnicero earned a 6.9 from Sofascore and helped his side get a clearance.

Because Canada couldn’t create many scoring opportunities, he was successful in all of his ground duels but was unsuccessful in his lone aerial duel.

Because the holders have been so dominant in the competition so far, Martinez has mainly benefited from playing possession soccer rather than defense.

With 75 total touches, he had a 91% completion percentage on 70 attempts.

With four of his eight attempted long balls completed, the center back was also able to advance the ball forward for his team.

Manchester United fans will be pleased to hear that Martinez has solidified his place in Argentina’s starting lineup; a healthy, self-assured Martinez can only help the club’s success.

United are looking to add Matthijs de Ligt, Jarrad Branthwaite, and Leny Yoro to their defense next year, thus he will be crucial in helping any of these center backs adjust to playing for United.
